How the numbers add up
For example, one cuffed beanie in three colors at 50 pieces each totals 150 pieces. Add a second style in those same three colors at the same quantity and the total is 300 pieces.

What counts as a different style?
List adult and child fits, different logos and different cuff constructions separately for review. Don't assume they can all be grouped under one style name. Changing a hangtag may be handled differently from changing the dimensions and knit structure of the hat.

Special yarn, a custom color, a label or a printed box may involve an additional minimum or setup charge. The supplier may be able to offer another option, but first ask which component is causing the restriction.

A large total can still contain an under-minimum color
Consider an illustrative order for one style: 120 black, 60 navy and 20 orange hats. The total is 200, but the orange group is below a standard 50-piece-per-style-and-color minimum. The total doesn't automatically make that color feasible.
Discuss these options rather than assuming the factory will combine the groups:

Accessories may need a different conversation
If a custom label or box has a separate purchasing minimum, ask whether the quote includes only the accessories used by this order or a larger quantity. Ask what happens to any balance. Don't assume unused components will be stored, credited or reused without an agreement.
If a supplier proposes carrying components into a reorder, ask who owns them, how they are identified and what happens if the artwork changes. Include any storage or reuse agreement in the order terms.
Ask for quantity alternatives that you could actually buy
It can be useful to request quotes for two realistic quantity plans using the same specifications. Keep the style, colors, logo and packaging fixed so the effect of quantity is visible. A higher-quantity quote with different yarn changes two variables at once.
Compare the total commitment as well as the per-piece price. A lower unit price doesn't save money if it means ordering substantially more slow-selling stock than you can use. Keep core colors aligned with expected demand when adding trial colors.
Before approving, read the final order line by line. Each style, color and size allocation should add up to the purchase-order total, and any exception should be written beside the relevant variation.
Choose shapes and colors around your customers and sales plan, then check whether that exact assortment is feasible. Spreading a fixed budget across too many combinations can leave every variation below its production requirement.
